30th Anniversary Mt Bachelor Quilters’ Guild

Quilt Show in the Park

Saturday, August 10, 2013

10 a.m.-4 p.m.

President’s Message

Shannon P.

Happy August everyone. Summer is going full swing. I've had one of the best summers so far. I've been able to travel and see my family. It doesn't get better than that, except I haven't sewn at all.

Hope everyone was able to get up to Sisters for the quilt show. But just remember that the second largest outdoor quilt show (not sure if it actually is but I will claim it!) is coming up! August 10th in Pioneer Park!  Be there or be square!!!!  Can't wait!!  See you there!

2013 MBQG 30th Anniversary Committee

Rosie W. and Kathleen G.

If you know friends who are former guild members, let them know they are invited to join the celebration and be our guests at the picnic as well as the show. They can sign our guest list and get a name tag at our table near the featured quilts display.

Challenge Quilts:  There were only three quilts entered for the challenge "Memories of Mount Bachelor Quilters" at the July meeting. If you have one in progress finished in time for the show, please bring it to quilt collection on August 9 (details in the quilt show article).

2013 Quilt Raffle Ticket Sales

Mary Ann B.

The raffle quilt will be at QuiltWorks for first Friday on August 2nd.  Also, it will be at the Sunriver Quilt Show on August 3rd.  Please tell your friends to come see and, hopefully, purchase a raffle ticket or two.  Thank you for selling tickets.

Calling all Snow Child Quilts

Kristin S.

There will be a special exhibit of Snow Child quilts at the Quilt Show on August 10.  If you have one that you would like to show, please bring it to quilt collection on August 9 (details in the quilt show article).

Guild T-Shirts

Phyllis V.

On the day of the quilt show, it’s great fun if everyone wears their guild t-shirt. If you haven’t purchased one, can’t find yours, or just want a new one, they will be on sale on Friday, August 9th at the rec center when you turn in your quilts and also on Saturday at our show in Pioneer Park. We still have most sizes. Cost is $15.

2013 30th Anniversary Mt. Bachelor Quilt Show in the Park- August 10

Susan M.

Quilt Collection

At Parks & Rec Building, Community room, 799 SW Columbia St., Friday, August 9th from 10-3.

All quilts must have a cloth label sewn on to the back of the quilt.

All quilts must have a completed quilt show entry form.   We will have copies of the form at the Quilt Collection. PLEASE do not pin the paper label to your quilt.  We will do this after the quilt is submitted.

HOLD on to your RECEIPT!!! It’s very important that you have the receipt from quilt collection day.  This is the only way for you to pick up yours or your friends quilts.

The Quilt Return committee cannot return quilts without a receipt.

If you have any questions about Quilt Collection, please email Jane D. or Susan M.  Thank you to those that have volunteered to help with Quilt Collection on the 9th.

Sales Table

Please use Sales Table Form (available on August 9th and sent by Kristin in an email) to itemize your quilt-related items.  Most anything quilt/sewing related can be place in the Sales Area.  One thing we’ve added this year, is the ability to sell member’s quilts.  If you are asking to place any more than 2 quilts in the Sales Area, we would like you to help in the sales area to promote the sales of the larger quilts.  Please notify Susan M. if you plan on selling more than 2 quilts.

Sales proceeds will be collected by MBQG, payments to members/non-members will be made after the Board meeting subsequent to the quilt show.  Most will be available at the September Guild meeting.

MBQG will withhold 10% of sales proceeds from sales of members.

MBQG will withhold 15% of sales proceeds from sales of non-members.

Each seller must complete a 2013 Quilt Show Sales Inventory Form.   Individually list each item to be sold on the sales table.  List each item separately, describing it completely, no ditto marks please.  Each item needs to have a sticky label or string tag attached.  The number on the bag, stack of magazines, etc. will match the item # in the column on your Sales Form.  The tag needs to have:  Seller’s name or initials, price, and the number that corresponds to the Sales Form list.    This is important to help the sales committee track your items accurately.  Please price items for $1 or more to make it easier for the Sales team.

Items accepted:  zip lock bags of fabric, zip lock bags of quilting notions, quilt books & magazines (bundled in at least 4 or more), zip lock bags of craft items, sewing machines and related equipment/accessories.  You can also put quilting related items in the “Freebie” area, these items would NOT be listed on your Sales Inventory Form.

On Quilt Show Day---8/10/13

No sales will occur before the Quilt Show opens.  No items can be “reserved” or set aside before the Quilt Show opens. At the end of the show, sellers may collect their unsold items from the sales table and check out with a member of the sales committee, who will check off unsold items on Sales Inventory form before you remove your items.

Potluck and Misc.

Please remember to bring your item of choice for the potluck.  You may need to bring a cooler if your potluck dish needs to be kept cold.  You may want to bring a camp chair also.  Remember to wear your Mt. Bachelor Quilters’ Guild T-shirt (see the previous article if you are looking for a guild t-shirt) and your Name Tag.

I am looking forward to a wonderful show this year and will see you bright and early on the 10th---we start set-up at 7 a.m.   Bring any helpers available and the job will go quickly and smoothly!  Also, if any helpers will be available at the end of the show, at 4 p.m., we will need help breaking down the quilt frames, etc. Any questions, please email me- slmondry@msn.com!

Community Food Drive

Diana L.

Please bring any canned food for September’s donation to the Food Pantry.  Since there is no August meeting, you may drop off food at Nativity Lutheran Church on any Wednesday between 11:00 and 2:00.  We accept food or monetary donations.  Thank you for all the support.

Community Quilts- Next Meeting August 14, 11-3 at Nativity Lutheran Church

Jane D., Diana L., Bev P., Lora F., or Jean M.

If you are tired of having summer fun and want to get away from family and friends and do some sewing for a change, come to Community Quilts on Wednesday, August 14th.   We meet at Nativity Lutheran Church from 11-3.    The church is located at the corner of SE Knott and Brosterhaus.    Bring your lunch and a community quilt project--if you don't have a project, we'll set you up with one.    Or, if you just want help with pinning a quilt, that's fine, too.    All are welcome, including summer visitors.

Our Guild Library

Linda M.

There is no raffle this month due to the quilt show.  The following books have been donated to library:  Sensational Settings by Joan Hanson, Conway Album Quilt (I’m not from Baltimore), by Irma Gail Hatcher, and Double Pinwheel Quilt, by Eleanor Burns.  In moving the library cabinet to my home, I found that there are a number of missing books that were not checked out.  If you have a book with the tag that says that it belongs to the Guild and it is not formally checked out, please return it to me at the next Guild meeting.  Thank you for your support of the Guild library.

Programs

Kayla H.

September- Joen Wolfrom will be here to present our program.  Joen's work focuses on color and design. Check out more here: http://joenwolfrom.com/

Workshops- Next Workshop September 9- Joen Wolfrom

Linda G.

The next scheduled guild workshop, “Creating a Scene with Pizzazz” with Joen Wolfrom, will be held on Monday, September 9th.   We have 10 seats allocated to our guild.  Thirteen members signed up, and names were drawn for the 10 seats and 3 wait-list positions.  Payment for the workshop is due on or before August 15th.   After that date any unpaid seats will be made available to wait-listed members.  This should be a great workshop!

Another Successful Quilt Show

We are happy to say that we added another successful Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show to the history books. More than 1300 quilts were displayed around Sisters and close to 12,000 people came to visit. We are truly grateful to all those who volunteer, enter quilts and come to see our beautiful town covered in quilts.

What’s Coming in August…

We are so excited to have Such Designs (Carrie Bloomston) new fabric collection “Collage” arriving this month. We have the entire collection of fabric and several patterns that we know you will love. Our favorite so far is Nest. This collection is artful and bold, prints filled with words, text & newsprint. Waterfront from Violet Craft (for Michael Miller) is truly “Oregonian” in image and nature. This fun, modern collection is filled with birds, bridges and boats…How Portlandia! We just love the blues, oranges, violets and yellows.
