www.quiltsqq.com President: Martha Sanders
Our Next Guild Meeting is Monday, December 12, 2011
No Fat Quarter Drawing this month.
Message from the President
I had no idea what being president would be like and it’s been quite an exciting, fun-filled year.
We transitioned to an official nonprofit organization from a social club, we had the best quilt show ever according to the many visitors, we had 22 new members join us and we learned so much from our wonderful program presenters. I hope you’ve enjoyed the experiences as much as I have and have enjoyed getting to know each other better. You are an exceptional group and your participation and enthusiasm make this guild one to be proud of. Thank you all for a fabulous year. I look forward to quilting with all of you next year.
WE NEED YOUR HELP!
Please consider filling one of the positions open for our Guild for 2012. We are still in need of a Raffle Quilt Sales Team, a hospitality team, a fundraising team, a history team. Come prepared in December to volunteer your talents for one of these jobs. Volunteers make this guild what it is.

December—The Christmas Party, please remember to make some drawstring bags for our Christmas charity donations. When making the bags, please use non-Christmas fabric. The drawstring bags are simple and fun to make. Two can be made as easily as one! If you can donate some toiletries for the bags, it would be appreciated. Small items or travel sizes would be appropriate. Examples: shampoo, conditioner, combs, toothbrushes/ paste/ dental floss, shower gel, soap, sewing kits, baby wipes/hand wipes, hand sanitizer, deodorant, food coupons, or non-perishable food bars, gum. Please see the website for directions for bags.
January—June Jaeger will be our January program. June is a long time quilter and well known in the quilting community in Central Oregon. June’s website is www.logcabinquiltworks.com . Please go to view her work, patterns, and history.
We're excited to offer the first workshop of 2012 with Elizabeth Hartman from Portland, Oregon. Her workshop, "Modern Mosaic Floor Pillow" will be held on Monday, February 13, 2012 from 1 - 4 p.m. at the Bend Park and Recreation Community Room. This three-hour workshop will walk students through a fun and flexible improvisational piecing technique with the goal of piecing the front of a 24" floor pillow cover. Elizabeth is know for her wonky cutting techniques and is an up and coming modern quilter. The cost is $30 and you can mail me your check or bring it to the December holiday party. Elizabeth's website and blog can be accessed at www.ohfransson.com. Her second book "Modern Patchwork" will be published in the spring.
We're also pleased to welcome Maggie Ball from Bainbridge Island, Washington. She'll be giving a "Kaleidoscopic Pinwheels" workshop on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Bend Park and Recreation Community Room. These beautiful pinwheels give an element of surprise and delight and excite. Inspired by Bethany Reynolds' Magic Stack 'N Whack, Maggie has devised a technique for making pinwheels that float on the background. With this simple and forgiving method, all the pinwheels have precise, sharp points and look awesome. The cost is $55. Maggie is the author of four books and is involved with Quilters Without Borders Mongolian Outreach which teaches low income and unemployed Mongolian women to quilt. You won't want to miss this unique class!
Thanks to those who have volunteered to give a quilt program in local elementary schools. We're excited to get this project off the ground!

Registration is now open for the 2012 Retreat. It will take place at the Seventh Mt. Resort on March 23, 24 and 25. Participants will be sewing on their own projects, so it'll be a great opportunity to finish up some of those UFOs, or, to make significant headway on a new project. Cost of the retreat is $250 and covers the room for two nights, and two meals Friday and Saturday along with a Sunday brunch. A down payment of $100.00 holds your spot! Contact Barb P. or Jill M. with any questions or for registration forms.
