              January 2010

  www.quiltsqq.com                                              President: Martha Sanders

Our Next Guild Meeting is Monday, January 17th, 2011.

Remember:   Our meeting is one week later than usual!
Fat Quarter for January will be yellows and greens…can you guess why??

Message from the President

Martha S.

I’m so excited to be your new president.  Thank you for your support.  I never expected this when I came to my first meeting almost 4 years ago. I’ve made many friends and hope to make even more as you and I work together.  Some of those friends include Marilyn Ulrich and the 2010 board, all of whom did a terrific job last year.  Thank you very much.

While you won’t be dazzled by a body of work from me (this body’s been working full time), like many of you, I have a great collection of fabric that I sometimes hate to cut and have many boxes labeled ‘work in progress’.  Still I hope to inspire you with new ideas and fun activities.  I encourage your participation and creativity so that we are all constantly energized and awed at the works we create.  Bring along a visitor, we’d love to grow and share our wonderful guild.

This is a big transition year for the guild as we officially become a 501c3 nonprofit organization.  We’ll have additional responsibilities with that as we continue to serve our community in many ways, new and old.

I’m told that I’m a great listener.  Please feel free to share your ideas with me and the other board members.  See you at the next meeting!

Martha Sanders

Important Reminders

The meeting begins at 7:00 pm.  Unless you are assisting with setup, please don’t enter the meeting room before 6:30 pm.  When you arrive at the meeting, remember to check-in at the membership table and pick up your door prize ticket if you are wearing your cloth nametag.   As always, please turn your cell phones off during the meeting.

Refreshments

Sadie R.

Wanda B, Cindy M., Cathy N., and Ruth P. have volunteered to bring refreshments for our January meeting.   If anyone finds they cannot bring what they volunteered to contribute, please call Rosemary F. at 388-5407.  Thanks ladies.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Martha S.

Please consider filling one of the positions open for our Guild for 2011.   We are still in need of a Hospitality, member survey committee, and Raffle Quilt Sales Team.   Please contact Martha S. if interested or be ready to volunteer at our January meeting!

Workshop News

Lisa N.

No workshops scheduled for January.  We’ll keep you posted about workshops for 2011!   Happy New Year!

Raffle Quilt Update

The 2011 raffle quilt will be debuted at the January Guild meeting. It was shown to the Board early this month, and, as described by the committee, it’s an art quilt! It’s beautiful and the Board thinks it will have a unique attraction to all in Central Oregon and especially to local businesses. The Board decided this would be a good time to change the raffle ticket price to $5.00 along with limiting the total number of tickets to be sold to 1,000. Taking these actions also keeps the Guild consistent with our anticipated 501(c)(3) status. Stay tuned for more information as the ticket details are worked out.

QuiltWorks

926 NE Greenwood Ave. , Bend 541-728-0527

Happy New Year Everyone! In January we are not having a First Friday exhibit; instead we will be renovating the Quilt Gallery to make the future exhibits more attractive....very exciting!

But the weekend of January 7, 8 and 9 is the SAVE DAVE Sale! Marilyn is taking all of the staff away for a weekend quilting retreat and Dave and a volunteer will be by themselves the whole weekend. Dave will negotiate with anyone and everyone on what you pay at the cash register. So let’s see...... he loves the Oregon Ducks, beer and flattery....and you need to drop in and see what kind of bargain he’s going to give you!

January 13th is the next meeting of the Novel Idea Quilt and Book Club and it’s not too late to join.  Participants will need to read the book Kapitoil by Teddy Wayne (the 2011 Deschutes Library’s chosen novel). The daytime group meets at 10 AM and the evening group at 7PM. The quilts will then be in the Quilt Gallery’s April exhibit. Email marilyn@quiltworks.com for more information.

A Modern Quilt Guild interest group has been formed and meets at QuiltWorks the first and third Tuesdays of the month from 5 to 8 PM. Bring a project, quilt, sew and meet some others that are interested in non-traditional quilting. For more info check out www.modernquiltguild.com.

Thanks for visiting QuiltWorks!

Stitchin' Post

311 W Cascade,(P.O. Box 280, 97759) Sisters 549-6061 www.stitchinpost.com

What’s New at the Stitchin’ Post!

Just in!  Jenaveve – the gorgeous and sophisticated new line of cotton linen by Valori Wells!

The colors are deep and rich and the drape of the fabric is fabulous. Val has already made several bags and skirts! There is a pattern booklet available for this line, to give you ideas on how to use this lovely linen. Other new fabrics include Amy Butler’s new line – Soul Blossoms – which is available in quilting cotton, decorator weight cotton, and in a laminated fabric as well. Another line by a very popular designer is Lonni Rossi’s Urban Shades—the colors of this line are warm and earthy.

January classes include “Bali Bowls” with Jackie Erickson, “Art Fairy Digital Collage & Mixed-Media Art Quilt” with Kathy Shaker, “Tango Tumble” with Lawry Thorn, and “Star of the Orient” with Ann Richardson. Jean will also be teaching a “Gum Drop Footstool” class on January 9th. See http://www.stitchinpost.com/classes.html or call the store for more details.

We have some great winter yarns, and our free Wednesday Sit & Knit sessions have become quite popular. One group meets from 1 – 4 pm, and the second group meets from 5 – 8 pm. We have a large selection of knitting patterns from Church Mouse—everything from baby blankets & washcloths to berets and fingerless gloves. Or why not learn a new skill in our “Rose Intarsia Fingerless Gloves” class with Catherine Childress? This three-session class begins January 13th and is recommended for intermediate knitters.

Have you tried the European Drinking Chocolate from Sipping Dreams yet? It’s a truly decadent treat—almost like drinking a chocolate bar! Sooooo good! This has been a very popular item in Twigs—the perfect thing for a romantic evening with your sweetie, or just to pamper yourself. Twigs is still your  hot spot for all your gifting needs—birthdays, baby showers, etc.––for both the big and small people in your life.

Happy Quilting!
